Dear Friends,
Thank you for taking a moment to stop by and visit my 2011 campaign for re-election website. For the past eight years, it has been my honor to serve as your Legislator in the Second Legislative District of Suffolk County.
Extending from Montauk to East Moriches, our district is unlike any other. While other areas have lost their charm, the East End of Long Island remains one of the most beautiful places on earth. However with each passing year, changes threaten our cherished "small town" way of life, and our fragile environment. As a former East Hampton Town Supervisor, and now as your representative in Suffolk County Government, I have worked tirelessly to provide responsible solutions to the many challenges that face our area.
I have been a leader in addressing critical community needs such as housing, transportation, and economic growth, protecting our environment, and keeping county property taxes from going up every single year I've served in elected office. I am proud of the many accomplishments I have made over the past eight years, including the widening of County Road 39 to break the bottle neck, preserving thousands of acres of open space, expanding public transportation by adding a Sunday bus in the summertime, and fighting for our fair share in county tax dollars.
As a result of my ability to build strong coalitions of support across party lines, our district is receiving the attention it deserves from the county for the first time. There are major capital projects going on throughout the district at this time, including a road safety project in West Hampton, a storm water control project in Hampton Bays, a new two mile sidewalk in Bridgehmampton, and the dredging of 3 Mile Harbor in East Hampton. The towns of the 2nd District are receiving millions more from the county for our local police, and $100 million has been spent to preserve our open space and farmland.
With a career in public service spanning 20 years, and a background as an educator, businessman and father, I am well qualified to address current challenges in our district, and in the county. I am running for re-election as Suffolk County Legislator so that I may continue to deliver for the residents of my district. I have made great progress, but there is still much more that I would like to accomplish.
